The Universe Might Last Forever, Astronomers Say, but Life Might Not

The Universe Might Last Forever, Astronomers Say, but Life Might Not

A decent overview of current physics eschatology.

I love the word "eschatology", by the way, though I love it even more when you get to add a "frivolous" beforehand like you get to when you're talking about religion.

By the way, the snippet below (last paragraph of article) is a near perfect summation of my own personal philosophy. In other words, if life has no real meaning, perhaps we should consider consciously changing the meaning of the word meaning to include our human endeavors and not limit ourselves to "God's purpose" or "Nature's intent".

Snippet: "Though aware that there is nothing in the universe that suggests any purpose for humanity," he wrote, "one way that we can find a purpose is to study the universe by the methods of science, without consoling ourselves with fairy tales about its future, or about our own."
